ABOUT

DEPARTMENT OF TURKİSH FOLKLORE

Department of Turkish Folklore conducts comprehensive theoretical and applied Turkish folklore studies at all levels.

FOUNDATION

Department of Turkish Folklore was established in 2014 and received its students in 2016-2017 academic year.

VISION AND MISSION

Folklore which emerged in the nineteenth century has become as a discipline. It examines folk literature, folk music and games, customs and beliefs, handicrafts and folk’s various experiences.  It studies on various experiences which can be carried form one place to another and can be interpreted in various epitomic cultural production.  It also attaches importance to interdisciplinary collaboration (history, media, fine arts, etc.) as a discipline.

Department of Turkish Folklore provides comprehensive applied folklore studies at every level. It ensures to reproduce the inventory generated by the compilation of cultural heritage products living in the locality nationally and internationally and to transfer traditional culture from generation to generation. Thus, it spreads respect to the diversity of cultural expression, creates awareness in the protection of human rights, plays an important role in the common cultural heritage and peace of mankind.

GOALS AND OBJECTIVES

Department of Turkish Folklore aims

  • to create a network among the researches carried out in Turkey and in the world.
  • to teach folklore theories and research methods and to train professional folklore researchers.
  • to provide research, compilation, archive and documentation of folklore products despite globalization.
  •  to train folklorist being able to teach in formal and non-formal education institutions.
  • to strengthen the relationship between folklore and local government and to inspire and support local governments about cultural politics in terms of human resources, experience and new ideas.
  • to prepare an action plan to including folklore products in mass media (TV, radio, documentary, script, advertisement) and avoiding generation gap.

OCCUPATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES

The students who graduated from department of Turkish Folklore will be able to:

  • work as a researcher in city museums and intangible heritage museums
  • establish to their own "Applied Folklore Museum".
  • work as a cultural project manager and consultant.
  • work as a "Project Cycle Management" expert.
  • work as a folklore researcher in the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
  • work as a consultant by producing innovative cultural studies in various cultural enterprises (Press, Media, Cultural Organization, Cinema, Documentary).
  • work as a teacher of  Turkish Language and Literature after taking teaching certificate.
